Great Fire of Newport Education Pack

You may not have heard of the fire of Newport, Shropshire, but in 1665 Charles II had heard of it. Through this resource you can share a first hand account of the fire which destroyed the homes of 163 people.

This story has similarities to that of the Great Fire of London, and includes a letter from the King as well as an account in the Parish Register – not many people would have kept diaries as Pepys did!

Finding out about this story can help children understand how every place and person can have a story.
