Rebecca Bailey - Story of a Pit Girl

Rebecca Bailey, Story of a Pit Girl

Research into original documents at Shropshire Archives, produced the basis for this story of Rebecca Baily from Oakengates

Details about her family and work as a pit girl are brought to life by actress Amelia Pitt, who draws her audience into the scene through singing, dance and mime.

Remembering Past Lives

Remembering Past Lives

Children looked at memorials to people from the Telford area

Through visits to their local library and workshops with poet, Roz Goddard, the children explored memories. These ides were then developed further with artist Jonny O'Hanlon, and each group produced a piece of art for their school.

A Sense of Tudor and Stuart Shropshire

A Sense of Tudor and Stuart Shropshire

Learning through the senses can mean discovering what people in the past smelled and tasted, discovering experiences that real people from long ago might have known through their food.

Making Connections

Making Connections

The history of the canal network of east Shropshire is the linking theme of a series of drama workshops in participating schools.

Children have looked at the history of their local canal, why it was built, and the people who worked on or near it. Through drama they have imagined what it would have been like in the canal era and have debated a possible future for canals in telford.

Their Past, Your Future

Their Past Your Future

A touring exhibition from the Imperial War Museum at St. Mary's Church, Shrewsbury, provided the background to this project.

Children attended workshops on wartime salvage, rationing and diet, and hear speakers talk of their experiences as evacuees during WW2.
